Doesn’t Have Widescreen Resolution Option

  • 0

I have Windows XP Professional SP3.
Processor Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
Ram 1 GB DDR-1
Motherboard asus p5vdc-tvm s
built-in VGA VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP (installed driver from VIA_S3G_614100275.zip)

I have recently connected a widescreen LCD monitor to this computer. i.e. LG Flatron W1942TE

I did not find a widescreen resolution option in Display settings. Only these resolutions are available.
800×480
800×600
1024×768
1280×768
1280×1024
1600×1200
1920×1440
Monitor is installed as Default Monitor. I did not find monitor’s drivers on LG website.

Kindly help.

  1. You do not need a monitor driver, you need the correct chipset & graphics drivers. It’s possible that the drivers for the VIA IGP (if that’s what you have) do not support the resolution you need. If that’s the case, you would need to install a more modern graphics card.

You need to know exactly which chipset your motherboard has & then install the correct driver. Are you 100% sure you have a VIA based board? Which one of these did you try to install?

Here’s something else I found. The following site lists a P5VDC-TVM S but if you zoom in on the model number printed on the board, it’s P5GC-TVM/S. They may have used an incorrect photo, but if you haven’t already done so, I suggest you open your case & see if there’s a model number to be found. That should clear up all the mystery.

  2. “built-in VGA VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP”

Try downloading & installing the VIA Hyperion Pro chipset drivers, then the VIA Unichrome graphics drivers. Get them directly from the VIA website. You will need to know which chipset your board is based on.

If that doesn’t give you the proper screen resolution, consider investing in a cheap graphics card. The VIA IGP sucks anyway.

EDIT: see the following about your board model number, it appears to be an OEM board:
