Better Ms-Dos 6.22 Cd Install?

I found a dos 6.22 boot cd and thought I could install dos from a cd but the installer was stuck looking for disk 1 on the cd.

Then I found a gateway 2000 boot disk, it was made to install dos from cd but when I put it on a bootable cd, the installer would not install because it was made to work on a floppy disk.

I was just thinking what if someone figured out how the gateway 2000 disk boot install worked so they can make a better bootable ms-dos 6.22 cd install.

    1. Operating systems that use BIOS calls to access the floppy drive can be fooled into accessing an image loaded into memory instead by using a program like MEMDISK

      I’m afraid I don’t know how the MS-DOS installer works. If it requires more than one disk, this method will obviously not work. Unless you have a specific reason to use MS-DOS, I would suggest trying FreeDOS instead. It is readily available on a CD, is almost 100% compatible with MS-DOS, and includes a lot of extra software you might want on a DOS computer anyway.

    3. Walter’s correct. If the drive is formatted with any version of MS-DOS (not DOS 7 or any other “later” version) you should be able to move the contents of the DOS folder(s) and upgrade from there. If the CD isn’t bootable you may have to find something like a Win95 bootdisk (floppy) to first be able to read the CD-Rom.
