[Solved] The print spooler service is not running

Question By January 22, 2011 at 03:06:10 Pacific
I am running Windows XP, and I have not been able to print in over two days. The printer is directly connected with a USB cable. There are no printers listed. When I try to add a printer or print from most of my software the following error message pops up: "Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running." I have started the print spooler service several times, but the Print Spooler service will not remain started. In Services the Status is blank and Startup Type is automatic. I have tried to install a new printer driver downloaded from the printer manufacturer website. I have not been able to find any viruses or spy ware.

Then I got solution from site…

“ Go to System Properties>Advanced
Select Performance>Settings
Select Data Execution Prevention
Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select
Click Add
Paste this in to the file name box of the window that opens:
Select Open
Select OK when you receive the warning
Select Apply “

I followed all the instruction but again the same error will come this time also.

How to solve this problem? How can able to run “ The print spooler service “

Kindly let us have your reply at the earliest.

How to fix print spooler service is not running solution:

Locate to your desktop -> Right-click My Computer -> Select Manage -> Highlight Services and Applications -> Select Service on the right panel and then double-click it-> Find out Printer Spooler option in the right-side list and then double-click to open Print Spooler Properties window -> set the Startup type as “Automatic” and then choose Ok to confirm the operation.

When you have performed the above steps and you receive “Error 3: the system can not find the specified path”, then you will need to perform more steps to fix “the print spooler service is not running” problem:

Open your Registry Editor (Start Menu -> click Run -> type regedit in the blank and press Enter key to open your Registry Editor) -> locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlset\Services\Spooler -> add new string value ImagePath whose value will be c:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe. -> check whether there is spoolsv.exe on System 32 folder in your local disk and if you haven’t, you can copy one from another another PC to there. Besides, the print spooler service will depend on Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service so you need to make sure the RPC service has also turned on. -> If you cannot find out the print spooler service at the beginning, then you can export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlset \ Services \ Spooler entry from another computer and then import it into your computer.
