Thanx, that took care of the problem. One would think a reboot would bring it back to status quo, but no. Again thanx.

Windows XP task manager is a wreck. Download a tiny utility called Task Killer. (google it). its hardly 300 KB and it is highly efficient in terminating tasks, much more than windows task manager. You wont use task maanger once you start using task killer.

The top-level menus and tabs in Task Manager were missing and a computer reboot didn't alleviate the problem when I called task manager back up. I'm glad the fix was that easy but the cause is a concern, maybe not really for me but maybe for those who deal with this stuff on a regular basis. Thanx for the time. Brettrocdoc

brettrocdoc, What caused it was that when you closed the Task Manager you may have accidently double clicked near the "X" which will hide the tabs. Try it and you'll see the tabs disappear. You can then double click the upper right border and the tabs will reappear. It's nothing to worry about. The link below explains it under:

Why does Task Manager look different? Where have the menus and tabs gone?

Task Manager has two different views. To see the view that includes menus and tabs, double-click the border of the Task Manager window. To switch back to the view without menus and tabs, double-click anywhere in the border around the tabs.
