XP System won't load after edited registry

Specs: Windows XP, a=
Originally, I used the registry to change the boot drive letter of F: to C: replacing HKLM/System/MountedDevices/ DosDevices\F: with DosDevices\C:. BAD IDEA! After some time, I put the %system root%\widows\repair sam, security, software, and system files into the %system root\widows\system32\config folder, replacing the original files and not backing up the old. On restart widows asked for a password for "Administrator" which was the same as the password for my old administrator account "adam." when i try to run user account controls, system restore, or almost any system file, the .exe will show in the task manager processes but will not show in an explorer window. i have used registry fixing software but it has not fixed the problem. is there any way i can make the system recognize programs installed prior to when i replaced the repair files without formatting/reinstalling windows?

it could if i (somehow) manually entered the registry values that the installation provided, right? in that case, is the ONLY way for the OS to recognize the system applications to reinstall XP? in that case, why dont the default repair files recognize the default system files?

You screwed up & there's no easy way to fix it. Why were you messing with the registry? There are easier & safer ways to change the drive letters...Disk Management? See if you can use it to correct your F-up.
