mmm - just to clarify... is the setup disk an OEM or standard retail (full or upgrade) disk; and is the "key" the same type as the disk used?

If disk is an OEM and the key isn't an OEM... then no-way will it work. Likewise if disk is not OEM (is retail etc..) and key is OEM...

It is a retail version that I bought from a retailer...sealed package with prodict key intact...i have installed the same product, (i bought 9 copies) on 7 other dells with no problems...Microsoft and Dell have both been useless with their support so I gave up on them. It is a full version, but again, I have had no problem upgrading other computers...I try to reinstall the enitre OS as well, but run into the same issue...thanks for you help.

Perhaps you're mixxing up O and 0 (capital O and a zero)?

Or maybe even lower-case L ( l ) and the number one ( 1 )?

If the display for the key details already has OEM in it - prior to you supplying rest of it - then it's an OEM; if the key you have has OEM in it then it's an OEM; and won't work with a non OEM dialgu/key entry display/page... Also I seem to recall that some OEM keys don't have OEM in them but it's in the display screen when get to that stage of event and have to enter the rest of the key info?
