xp pro domain pc not on home internet

October 25, 2010 at 17:36:22
Specs: Windows XP
I have a Windows XP pro laptop joined to my company domain. The company uses a proxy server for Internet access. The system has no problem getting on the internet at work. However, when the laptop is connected to any other network, public wi-fi or my home network, the laptop pulls an IP address and can see other systems on the local network and can ping Internet IP addresss but I cannot surf the Internet. I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Other company users report they do not have this issue when they take their laptops home. IPConfig shows the laptop has the same DNS information as my home pc. I have rebooted, cleared the DNS with ipconfig /flushdns and run a Winsock repair with no success.

Check for internet settings. Look for a proxy or proxy.pac file.

Could simply install portable firefox too.

By the way. You (and your co-workers) are risking damage to the companies lan by using this outside of their lan.

No Proxy or Proxy.pac files found. Have tried Firefox and it did the same thing as IE. As for using the machines outside of the company LAN, they are used on business trips so there's really no way to avoid this.
