XP locks up loading software in System tray

Specs: Windows XP Media Center, 2.20 gig AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 1 GB ram

Windows XP locks up when it is loading software in the system tray on the right hand side of the task bar.Please help

Boot to safe mode and uninstall the last program you just installed.
