Solved XP launches Find file when pressing F on keyboard

November 3, 2012 at 01:30:36
Specs: windows XP, Core2Duo
help on this one please.

my problem is everytime i press certain letters in keyboard it launches its corresponding shortcuts as if i am holding the windows key combined with the keyboard letters. like if i only press F it will launch the find file. then if i press R it will launch the run dialogue box. and L will lock my desktop. D will display the desktop and so on. i supposed someone had messed with our computer and i cant use it because of that. like if i am going to type facebook it automatically opens the find file when i hit F. It just pisses me off everytime im trying to use that pc.

i have a core 2 duo cpu
p5sd2-vm motherboard
160gb HDD
2gb ram
running on XP sp3

i've read some of remedies like disabling the HID in services options under the administrative tools, but none of it solved my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

You need to turn off (disable) Windows "Sticky keys": http://ask.metafilter.com/95742/Dis...

Have you spilled any thing on the keyboard? check the ctrl key and see if it is stuck.

More likely that the Windows key is stuck. As you said, that would
produce the exact symptoms you are getting.
You might fix it by tapping like mad on the Windows key for a while.

@Worldlibrary, nope i havent spilled any on the keyboard, and i 've used several good working keyboards from other pc's and it has the same problem. but when i use those keyboards to other pc's it does'nt have any problem.

@Derek, all keyboards are functioning well when used with other pc's except with this problem pc.

@phil22, i'll try your suggestion and see if it'll work.
