xp laptop slow and turning off contstantly

Specs: Windows XP
xp laptop running very slowly and sometimes won't connect at all. It is also turning itself off constantly sometimes straight away and sometimes after a wee while. I don't know technical terms or details to give, sorry.

Sounds like the CPU is overheating. Make sure the cooling vents aren't clogged, then blast out the vents with a can of compressed air.

Hi, thanks for replying I really appreciate it, but, unfortunately I'm totally clueless and don't know where the CPU is or the vents so, if possible, could you tell me how to do this, thanks again.

Sounds like you got a lot of dust. clean it from the cooling fans using a can of compressed gas. Delete any old or unused programs and scan your system of virus's. If your HD is full and you use your laptop a lot you may have fragmentation problems. I like to use a fully automatic defragger that runs in the back-round under low free space. Much faster than the in-built. Good luck.
