xp crashed and I would like to reinstall using disc.

Specs: Windows xp
instructions say it is necessary to use both cd and dvd however, cd does not work. is there any way to reinstall just using the dvd drive?

Do you mean the CD drive doesn't work?

If yes, the DVD drive should be able to read both CD and DVD media.

Did you put the disk in the drive then power up? If that sent you to Windows instead of starting the install then you have to go into BIOS and set the CD/DVD drive ahead of the hard disk (C Drive).

No it doesn't.

XP doesn't come on both, it came on a CD, not a DVD. Follow the instructions again, and watch very closely to what is says. Write down the exact error message.

The OP may be referring to self-made recovery discs, not the retail Windows XP disc.
I wish he/she would respond so we can clear up any misunderstanding caused by lack of information from them.
