Won't boot OS or from CD/DVD!

Toshiba Satellite a60 notebook

Specs: Windows XP
I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 notebook that i just recieved 2nd hand.

It will not boot the OS as it states invalid partition table.

I cannot use a recovery cd as when i try and boot from cd i get the error "No bootable cd in ATAPI CD-ROM".

My intention was to wipe it clean and install ubuntu onto it, both the windows xp disk i burn from msdn and the ubuntu installation disk work on my desktop but just receive the same old error from this laptop!

Here is a screenshot of the bios:

Here is a screenshot of the booting erros:

Please help :(
All I can think of is that there was a virus on it and the the dvd drive is broken or something.
Is there any way of booting from something else? Resetting the partition tables somehow or something? I'm at the end of my knowledge on the matter!

If it has a setting in BIOS to boot from external Optical Drive, that may be an option...

Hmm I don't think that's an option, the only important editable values in the BIOS seem to be:

Parallel Port Mode = ECP / Std. Bi-Direct.
CPU Cache = Enabled / Disabled
Write Policy = Write-back / Write-through
Level 2 Cache = Enabled / Disabled

Boot Priority =
HDD->FDD->CD-ROM->LAN or
FDD->HDD->CD-ROM->LAN or
HDD->CD-ROM->LAN->FDD or
FDD->CD-ROM->LAN->HDD or
CD-ROM->LAN->HDD->FDD or
CD-ROM->LAN->FDD->HDD

Plus I don't have an external optical drive :(

... try the "CD-ROM->LAN->FDD->HDD" .....first

... and disable "network boot protocol" PXE

... does the laptop have two harddrive bays?

... there may even be another <key> to tap @ bootup

... click > save settings on exit of bios ...it's your <End> <key>

Already on CD-ROM->LAN->FDD->HDD

Cannot disable network boot protocol PXE

Only one harddrive bay

Only other button I've found is f12 which allows you to specify one way of booting using icons, hdd, cd, floppy? or network

Instead of a disk, try using a flash drive to boot.
