Solved wipe an old xp laptop

Specs: Windows XP, 1GB
how do i wipe an old xp laptop before i send it for recylcing. is there a programme i can download to a usb on my current laptop then run from usb on xp laptop? I tried duke and nuke thing but it didn't seem to have an option for XP. thanks!

Unless you are planning to use it then just smash the hard disk.

I gather you mean Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN). It's not specific to any OS, including XP. There's a guide here (which includes downloading RUFUS) to walk you through wiping the drive (and smashing it would definitely work---but ruin a perfectly good usable drive in the process):

Thanks! So smashing the hard drive is the easiest option. There is definitely no where else where personal data can me attained from?

I think I will smash it it is very old now anyway...battery on laptop doesn't work and screen is in a bad state etc...

Guess that depends on how much someone would be willing to put into it:
