My recommendation would be to not install XP on a system with only 128mb ram. You will be sorely disappointed with the performance. The little research I've done on SXS errors indicates Msoft supposedly fixed this with SP1 so to get an error while installing XP SP2 is unusual.

What size harddrive do you have and has it been wiped/formatted before you tried to instal? Have you run any hardware tests such as memtest86 & Harddrive diagnostics?

My Hard Disk is 20GB. This Computer initially had WinXP Pro SP1 and I was in the process of Upgrading it to SP2. I did format the Hard disk. It has one partition for NTFS. At first the CD-Rom failed to work and I had to use a different one.

I agree with Richard59. 128MB is WAY too little RAM for XP. It must have run like crap.

Why did you format? All you had to do was download SP2 from Microsoft & install it....formatting was unnecessary. And why would you go for SP2 instead of SP3?

Download SP2 for WinXP

Download SP3 for WinXP

Regardless, it's pointless to run XP on a system with just 128MB RAM. If you can't (or won't) upgrade to at least 512MB, choose a different OS. How about Windows 2000? Also, it's generally better to format small HDDs as FAT32 unless you intend to store files that are larger than 4GB (which I doubt).
