Windows XP Product key is not valid

Microsoft Windows xp home sp2

Specs: Windows XP, Core 2 Duo 8400 3.0GHZ, 4.0Gb DDR3
So i recently formatted my new pc. I am installing windows xp home on it and when it asked me for the key i tried using the key off an older computer i had laying around which also had windows xp home installed on it. It quickly prompted to say that the key is not valid. It's probably worth mentioning that i was installing xp home sp3 when the key on my older computer was from xp home which was probably older than the first service pack. Is the key not being valid normal or do i have to do something for this key to work?

It's probably a OEM key and you are trying to install a retail version of XP. But more to the point, what you are attempting to do is against the licensing agreement, so you probably won't get much more help here.
