Specs: Microsoft Windows XP, idk
My *LEGAL* copy of Windows XP does not accept my *GENUINE* product key! The key is on the bottom of the laptop. When I attempt to use the product key that Windows automatically inserted at first boot, it says "Unauthorized Product Key". Please help!

Your OEM key will only work with the appropriate OEM version of XP. It will not work with a retail disk.

You can use a retail disc with OEM key (or vice-versa), but you'll have to create a new installation disc. See if either of these sites help:

So your *LEGAL* copy isn't a disk that came with the laptop? I don't think XP home and professional keys are interchangeable. Could that be the reason?

Is the key that 'Windows automatically inserted at first boot' the one on the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop?
