Windows Xp no booting in any mode after virus

Specs: Windows XP
Yesterday a fake windows xp virus scanner popped up while i was surfing the web. I paniced and tried to restart my laptop. But now i am unable to boot my laptop i any mode. I have even tried to use the xp-cdrom to restore/reinstall, but again no luck.

What do you think i can do? Is it at a hardware failure or software? And recently my battery was unable to recharge, but i know i got a virus just before i shut down the laptop...

It sound like the boot sector got nixed when you pulled the plug.
There are free programs to fix fix boot.

Wondering? Does it even post and can you get into the bios setup?
Is the hard drive recognized?

Have you tried a live cd yet?

It's unlikely that the fake anti virus is the cause as killing the machine ,defeats the purpose of the program. They want you to buy buy it.

If you can't get the xp disk to re-install then assume either bad disk or bad hardware.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

i believe its the harddrive that is broken. Is there anything to do now, to recover it or my files?
