Solved windows xp load errors after reformat

September 28, 2012 at 07:55:32
Specs: Windows xp pro, AMD Phenom 8600B / 2gb
I reformatted the hard drive, it began to load Windows XP pro. After about 50% complete, received message that a file won't load. Tried retry, then ESC (skip). Then the next file won't load, etc, etc until I get a blue screen.

Tried another Windows XP Pro CD...same thing.

Could be bad RAM. Try running memtest on your computer.

Thanks for your help. I will try it. I downloaded it to a thumb drive and will see if it will work. The PC I am having the problem with does not have windows on it. I will see if it will boot to dos. This is a work computer. I don't know when I will get to it, I have jury duty next week. As soon as I try it, I will let you know. Thanks again.

Go here - http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ and download Hiren's boot CD. There will be a file to create the CD and the iso for the CD itself. It has it's own operating system and memtest is built in. Obviously you will have to create it on a working computer. There are also hard drive tests on the disk as well. You might try running those if Memtest doesn't find anything.

Thank you for your help. I downloaded and ran Hiren's boot CD and all the memory tests failed.

I will run some of the other tests available to see if this computer is worth my time.

Thanks again.
