Disc or optical drive problem. Try another good working disc first.

Errors copying files during XP Install can be caused by a number of problems including dirty or faulty Install CD, Faulty CD Drive and also flakey RAM.
You have not listed any system specifications but if cleaning the CD does not help I suggest you get hold of Memtest86 and test the ram.

I've sometimes found that copying the disk at a slow burn speed produces a working copy.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

You should get NO ERRORS AT ALL when reading files from the CD during Setup. If clicking on Retry or similar does not help...
If you DO / DID get errors, something was not right !
