Specs: Windows XP
I just got an old IBM thinkpad. I have cable internet and have an external modem. I can't seem to find it and don't know how to get my internet to work on it. All it finds when I search is my 56k internal modem.

You need to install a driver for the cable modem first.
Have you got a drivers CD for the cable modem?
Otherwise, the esiest and more secure way is, to put a router between your Thinkpad and the modem.
In that case, you don't have to install an additional driver and you are more secure, because the current routers do have a build in firewall.

Thanks. I tried that and it worked fine with my wireless router. I did fix the problem with hooking my laptop directly to my modem however. All I had to do is reset my modem and hook it directly to my laptop.
