Windows Will not start in any mode

Hewlett-packard Pavilion dv6-2190us note...
March 9, 2010 at 09:07:17
Specs: Windows XP
Windows will not start in any mode that I choose. I've tried every option and it says, " Windows will not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vgoaem.fon

I have no idea how to fix this problem. Any suggestions?

What should I do if I do not have the original set up CD - ROM?

Can you borrow an XP disc from someone ? Another option is to download the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and then run anti-virus/spyware scans.

Try this: Do a search of your drive for vgaoem.fon. If found copy it to the folder indicated by the error message.

There 'should' be a search in the Start Menu.

But that is the problem. Windows will not load, so I cannot copy or paste anything.

Oops, Sorry! I lost track of the problem. It's incredible that a missing font file would cause a bootup failure.

You could try downloading a (free) Linux 'Live' CD, booting from it and try to replace the missing file. Vgaoem.fon is probably available for download on the web.
