Specs: Windows XP
Hello everyone

I have a HP laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2 when I bought it. If I get an ORIGINAL version of Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2, will it work with my HP laptop with the product key on the laptop? For some reasons, I don't want to use the "recovery image" or the backup image of the OS. Thank you

unless the version you get is also a hp oem version odds are not great the key will work with a regular retail version. This is because OEMs are responsible for the support of the OS and things are tweeked accordingly.

I would think the person you borrow the cd from has a working key to install.
But do be sure to download and use Microsoft's
FREE key updater. It will take a look at the software and hardware and make your installation legal.

You will need internet access to update the key.
Install....start updater...enter the key from you laptop.

Thank you for all helps.

To Wanderer. I am sorry to ask you again because I don't quite understand clearly. Do you mean that the product key on my laptop only work with the HP OEM version, but not with the retail version, right?

"For some reasons, I don't want to use the "recovery image" or the backup image of the OS"

And what would those reasons be? Seems to me installing the version you have would be the easiest solution. If it contains certain programs that you don't want, simply uninstall them.
