windows media player won't play sound from ex

Specs: Windows XP
I downloaded a file with .rar extention. Extracted it with 7-zip. The file has videos in it. The file type of the videos is wmv. The file says it is windows media audio/video file. When I go to play it in Windows Media Player 11 or in Realplayer only the video plays. I have no sound. The sound works just fine in Windows Media Player and Realplayer when I try other stuff, just not this WMV file. I thought maybe 7-zip didn't extract it right, so I tryed another .rar extracter- Rarzilla. But again same problem. Then I tryed downloading this .rar file from a couple different sources, but still I have no audio with the WMV files that were compressed into this .rar. Does anybody know why the videos play but not the audio?

Hard to say.
If it would have been the 7-zip, you should have get an error, on extracting the file.

Are you sure, that the video has any sound track?
I suggest to try playing the video with VLC player.
VLC is playing nearly all videos without problems.

I agree. I use VLC or Media Player Classic. Both work fine.

If the sound still doesn't work, I'd say there was a problem with the file itself.

It's a good day when you learn something
