Windows keep restarting; tried many solutions

Specs: Windows XP, AMD 6000 x2 / 4gb ram

This morning my computer decided to start restarting as soon as windows is loaded (just before the welcome screen) - till yestereday evening everything was working fine

I've tried both hiren's and ulitmate boot cd, and checked both partitions and boot records. There were some errors, which where successfully fixed (after re-checking, no error showed up)

I also attached the sata hard drive (1.5tb) to another computer and ran both scandisk and chkdsk, with successfull results. However, when I plug my sata hard disk back and try to boot from it, xp keeps restarting.

I've also tried safe mode and last known good config; and does the same exact behaviour.
I tried repressing f8 to disable the autoreboot option in the advanced menu, but it still reboots despite having switched it off, so basically i can not google the bsod error if any.

One weird thing is that when i boot via the xp cd and run the recovery console, the C: drive that starts with is unavailable. I get the error "An error occurred during directory enumeration" when I try to view directories via DIR.

When I've tried chkdsk (with or without parameters) I got the "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems" error...

One last thing i've tried is to boot from xp cd, and try to reinstall windows on same partition (so that I get the Repair option) but when the partitions are shown, only 1x EMPTY unpartitioned hard disk is displayed... yet on other computers (laptop and p4) i can access the folders/data without problem

I will back up all the necessary files, but to be honest I do not wish to reinstall windows as i've got plenty of applications, setups emails etc which i do not wish to loose and start reinstalling from scratch :/

sorry for the long post but I tried to give all the relevant details...ive just hit 12hrs working on this problem :'(

thanks for any input

I use old small Hd's with different operating systems on, to isolate problems, if everything is Ok, using these drives, I then know it is a problem with the main drive.

Googling your errors, it appears you have done these, but just in case there is a discrepancy, here is what my keywords found.

an error occurred during directory enumeration recovery console xp dir

chkdsk /p /r ( & let it finish )

Another possible is to download the Diagnostic tool from your HD manufacturer.

the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems xp chkdsk

This helped a lot of people.
