For some inexplicable reason, starting yesterday, my Windows Firewall keeps turning off. I'll activate it, but it turns off again. I ran a scan - no viruses. It may be only a coincidence, but it coincided with the latest Windows XP Updates, which I downloaded yesterday morning. Any suggestions?
Uninstall the update.
I'm sure if it's a MS update issue it won't be long before the next update will fix it. I don't use the XP firewall so I don't if a recent update is doing that. I wouldnt settle for just 1 AV check up either... run other malware programs as well... sometimes AV will miss the obvious.
I recommend you post this in the Virus Forum. You could try a different AV. I recommend Malwarebytes...
To remove the Update, you can
Try System Restore to a date back when all was good.
Start >All Programs >Accessories >System ToolsUsing System Restore too many times can cause
more harm than good. After doing a restore
that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the
Restoration, and try another restore point, or
just do the UNDO.
Thanks, folks. There was another Windows Update this morning, which I thought might be a fix, but it still happened after. I'll try Malwarebytes first. If that doesn't do the trick, I'll do System Restore, and if that doesn't do the trick, either, I'll post this on the Virus Forum. Thanks, again.
Seems to be fixed. Windows Firewall program hasn't shut down since I ran Malwarebytes yesterday. That's a great program! It found all sorts of goodies. Thanks very much, everyone.
