Windows config file missing or corrupt

January 25, 2011 at 10:21:08
Specs: Windows XP
My Compaq Presario SR2011WM started shutting down and rebooting by itself. Then at once it s--- down and when I tried to turn it back on it gives me this message:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
And it says: You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-Rom.
Can someone please tell me what to do? I have lots of precious pics and data that is on this computer!

Do as the instructions tells you. Boot from your Windows CD then select Repair Install.

You call the tech support for your computer and you have them mail you one. What happened to the disk that came with the computer?
