Windos XP Taskbar problem

Billfax January 27, 2009 at 17:27:50
Specs: Windows XP
I placed shortcuts icons on my taskbar and have used them for 4 years no problem. I have locked and unlocked the taskbar with no problem. Suddenly all the icons I placed on the task bar have dissapeared. Also, my taskbar won't accept dragging shortcut icons onto as if it is locked. The task bar properties allows me to check and uncheck "Lock the Task Bar" but it doesn't change anything whether it is checked or not. It is if my taskbar is permantley locked and I can't unlock it. Also, the area for icons can't be moved anymore. Could this be a virus? I've scanned for virus and there is none dectected. What could have happened to my shortcuts? How do I unlock and restore the task bar to function the way it did?

You may want to try the "Restore to XP Default * (clickable)" vbs file fix at the link below.

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry.

And what you're referring to is the "Quick Launch Toolbar" not the taskbar. :)

To have to beg you to see
We’re not all the same
What a shame" - Shinedown

Are you sure you didn't just uncheck the "show the quick launch" in the Task Bar and Start Menu properties?
