Specs: Windows XP
Got a new WD 640gb sata hard drive, and windows xp setup only recognized 131gb total instead if 640gb.
ASUS M2N motherboard bios recognized it as a 640gb drive...
Is the new drive junk???

The original version of WinXP with no service packs has a 137GB limit. You need to install SP1 or higher.

If you are doing an install, checkout Nlite. It can merge SP2 or SP3 with your install CD. It's not that difficult.

Or see if you can borrow an XP CD of the same version but with SP2 or SP3 already on it. You would still use your key, but it will certainly simplify things for you.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

Thanks guys... I actually figured this out by myself... I inadvertanly used an older xp install disc... the newer one has sp2 on it.. The thing that threw me , was the bad drive I replaced was 250gig and I installed windows on it without any problems..
Again, thanks

The drive you replaced may not have been bad.

Did you also use the original WinXP CD to install on it?
