Specs: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3, Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8 GHz / 2096628 MB
Below are screenshots of my task manager with a) IE8 running with 5 tabs open, and b) Chrome running with those same 5 tabs open. I recently threw 2GB RAM in it to see what would happen regarding performance. Unacceptable!

Internet Explorer, 5 tabs open

Chrome, 5 tabs open

As far as I'm concerned, IE is only good for Windows Update!

"Why IE8 is horrible compared to Chrome".

I doubt anyone can answer that on here.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Memory usage in Windows is highly dynamic and dependent on many factors. So unless this was a part of a closely controlled experiment I would place little faith in the results. I expect they mean little to nothing.

I think google is evil.
Guess you could try the IE 10 or if you are really worried about memory then you need QTweb browser or another browser written in C.

Have you tried disabling unnecessary add-ons in Internet Explorer?

The last time I used IE regularly was when IE7 came out, and that's because it was a big step up from IE6. I got annoyed with it and opted for Firefox, which was faster and more secure at the time. Another big reason I dislike IE is because it poorly complies with web standards. I don't even support IE on my websites anymore.

@ Jefro: IE9 is the latest released version, but IE8 is the last one that will run on Windows XP.

Ah, I was unaware Microsoft released an in-development version of IE10:

It looks like IE9 is the last for Vista, understandably.
