Solved Why I don't have standby in power options in the control?

December 24, 2016 at 03:30:08
Specs: Windows XP
In the control panel, at power options I only have 2 choices: turn off monitor and hard disks, but I have no standby option at all? Could you help me please, because I don't know what to do. Besides, my desktop Standby Button went faded a few days ago and the PC slowed down.
Thank you.

Someone else may tell you differently but standbuy is really meant for laptops to save energy when running on batteries. But my mom insist on doing that on her desktop swears she saving on electricity but she has windows 7.

I agree with Davidw. Standby & hibernate are features designed for laptops & mobile devices as a way to preserve battery life. If your PC has "slowed down", it has nothing to do with Standby. It's more likely that you picked up an infection. Since you're still running XP, make sure you have SP3 installed along with all the other security updates. If you're still using IE8, stop using it! It's no longer secure & hasn't been for years. Plus many websites has stopped supporting it. Download & install Firefox, Chrome, or one of the other alternative browsers.

I assume you have some sort of antivirus protection, but here's several programs you should download & run to clear things your AV might have missed.
