while starting pc NTLDR is absent written

Specs: Windows XP, 2 GB
when i start my laptop which is DELL INSPIRON 1525 a screen i found written ''NTLDR is absent''
then it shows to click ctrl+alt+del to restart .i follow this but it is comming again and again what to do please guide me.MY OS IS WINDOWS XP.is it necessary to format my laptop?
if yes then how can i format it with windows xp as, when i enter boot cd of xp it is writting "there is no hard drive found'' WHAT SHOULD I DO PLEASE SUGGEST PROCEDURALLY.

Some possibilities are:

1. The hard drive has failed and must be replaced in the appropriate manner.
2. The hard drive connection is defective, perhaps due to corrosion on the pins. Remove/replace the hard drive in the appropriate manner.
3. The hard drive controller is defective and not repairable.

Boot from installation CD and choose to repair the installed windows.

No can do a repair if Setup cannot find a hard drive.
