Where is my XP progress bar?

Specs: Windows 8.1, Intel 2 GHz Core i7 2630QM
About a month ago, the progress bar that was always at the bottom of the screen, disappeared. Is there any way to get it back?

A progress bar is what you see when your downloading a file or installing software, it shows you the progress of said operation. XP doesn't have a progress bar as there is nothing to progress, are you asking about the Task Bar where you see what programs are running?

If you mean when you download a file then what browser are you using? They are always "improving" browsers and many have dispensed with the progress bar (don't ask me why - seen as too technical maybe).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I don't know the technical name, just called it a progress bar because when I would download something, the "progress bar" would show up near the center of the task bar (at the bottom where the Start button is). The progress bar would fill in, from left to right, reaching the far right when the download was complete. What I called the "progress bar" was about 2" long.

Not sure I understand. You said XP has nothing to progress. The progress bar I had worked everytime I search for something, or downloaded something. For instance, if I Googled "PC help", while waiting for the results, the progress bar (about 2" long) would come up in the task bar, filling out from left to right.

I'm going to let someone else answer this, it's been too long since I've used XP and I don't remember seeing the progress bar in the task bar. Usually it was in the browser.

It sounds like a browser status bar? If that's the case, how you'd enable it would depend on your browser and browser version.

From what you have said this progress bar seems to be related to being online, for downloads, Google etc.
I know what you mean but haven't seen one for sometime (even on my XP) but what will define it is what browser you are using. For example you could be using Internet Explorer or Firefox. The version number is usually given in "Help > About" near the top so let us have that too.

As I said earlier, progress bars have been dumped by MS in recent times. There is some fiddling little arrow at the top instead or maybe something in the status bar if you have invoked it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Sounds like the Task Bar to me. It might have been moved off the screen. Can you see your Start Button?

If not, press Ctrl Esc and see if it shows up.

Just to say that there might have been a bit of confusion about #1. XP itself doesn't have a progress bar but it comes with Internet Explorer and at one time that had one.

What browser are you using?
