WHEN REFROMATTTING HD FROM XP CD A MESSAGE APPEARS STATING NO HARD DRIVE RECOGNIZED. I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS THE OPERATING SYSTEM AS THERE IS A PASSWORD PROTECTING IT SO I AM TRYING TO REFORMAT THE DRIVE

XP doesn't natively recognize SATA HDDs. See the following:

Do you know there is a hard drive password, or are you assuming? If there actually is a hard drive password and this is a laptop then you are wasting your time.

Reformatting or even deleting the partitions will not clear the hard drive password.

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop. Be prepared to prove ownership.

Typing in all caps is considered shouting.
