when i turn my computer on

Specs: WindowsXP
I had somebody that was going to upgrade my desktop for me, deal fell thur, but he had already taken the RAM cards out. I put them back in, but when I turn on the computer nothing happens but the fans turn on and the yellow light flashes and the dvd drives cycle thru, but nothing else. I can turn it off and on but it refuses to boot up

Pull the RAM sticks out and then power on.
If you get beeps, that's good. That means your motherboard/bios is working and has detected the missing RAM.
If you plug in the RAM and do not get a display, and do not get any beeps, the motherboard/bios is not working. One of the RAM sticks is bad, or you are not inserting them correctly and it's stopping the motherboard from operating..
