whats going on in the background?

Specs: Windows XP
Every day when I switch on computer for the first time the hard drive keeps going on and on for half an hour and I have to wait for every execution of a click of a button which is annoying.
I've installed process monitor to see whats going on, there is hundreds of entries under process name, some like:
services.exe
lsass.exe
ctfmon.exe
jqs.exe
svchost.exe
wuauclt.exe
there are also some scanning processes (PID 2836) even though my zone alarm scanning is switched off.
Some paths to this processes are:
c:\windows\system32\zonelabs\avsys\bases\base063c.avc or
c:\device\harddisk volume2
and many more
I think that this scanning is slowing my computer the most. What program is running the scan and how to stop it?

thank you

Post a hijackthis log in the proper forum.

Careful you don't download the wrong thing.
It's in small print were you click to download.

You don't have 2 anti-virus do you?

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del, click Task Manager, then look at the bottom left corner...how many processes are running?

In the first half an hour there is between 39-36 processes running
That scan is run by zonealarm even when scanning is switched off. I'll have to ask zonealarm support.
Thanks for all replies
