If it's in the system tray (where the clock is), hover your mouse pointer over it and you should get a clue about what it's for. If it's not in the sytem tray, please describe where it is exactly (left or right side, top or bottom, and what colour it is.

Yes, It's on the system tray. The volume control icon is to its left.. the "icon" down and to the left of the clock. It doesn't appear to have text while hovering. The volume control does and the clock does. I'd be glad to attach a screen print but it doesn't look possible.. Perhaps rebooting will get rid of it *shrug*

A reboot did not solve this problem and believe it or not it doesn't show on a screen print. I had to take a picture of it with my camera. To me it looks like a tiny globe. i hid the clock and it went away with the clock. When I put the clock back, it came back with the clock.

What time zone are you located in and what time zone is Windows set to?

CDT but I tried changing all of that. A friend just told me that it is all over a search as "what is the globe in the system tray" - don't know if that is the same thing.

You described the icon as being part of the time/date.

If you want to post an image here you need to use an imaging service like imageshack. Upload a file there and provide a link to the file here.
