Silverlight probably came down with Windows Updates. In a nutshell it is Microsoft equivalent to Flash. You might find the odd website that needs it. As for keeping it or uninstalling it then it's a matter of opinion. It shouldn't do any harm if you leave it there, unless you are short of space.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

You are not out of line at all by asking on here, although Google is often a very good start for general things.

Don't be put off coming here and asking questions... Google is, as already observed, a useful start - but often it's nice/good to "chat" to others in order to understand more fully...

Thank you Derek,OtheHill, and trvir for your kind words, I had said that I found Silverlight on my computer and did not remember downloading it, so what I mainly wanted to know was how it got there, was it something that automatically downloads?
I also received an e-mail saying that I had a personal message and to click on to get it, but that took me to my user name and password here, then said it was invalid,(several times) so could not get the message.
trvir, you said it would be good to "chat" How do I do that?
anyways I want to thank everyone here for being so nice and patient with me, and from now on I will go to Google when needed before bothering you.
Thanks again for your help, you really helped me with all the other things.
Nicki

Just now got the private message, thank you.. makes me feel better.

Chat as in post/respond the messages in post here Calling For Help (CFH). As often there may be a discussion of sorts (a chat…) about what may be wrong, and how to fix it… And also at times to explain what something is and so on…

Most input is useful; and if one doesn't follow how something works etc. one can always ask; and folks here will do their best to explain, or point one to a site where it is explained in more detail than be done here (time/space limitations..)

NickiRN:

Should you decide to keep Silverlight, it may be best to make sure you have the latest version:
