What is going on with Real Player and YouTube

Specs: Windows XP, 4GB
Approximately three weeks ago, I couldn't download videos from YouTude to RealPlayer---the stupid little blue 'thingie' wouldn't appear (DCM anti-piratcy?). Now you can't download ANYthing--even stupid cute kitty videos with no musical content. I facebooked hundreds of people and it appears to be a global problem (USA, Europe, SW Asia). Is it me or do I smell a conspiracy?!!!

I reloaded XP, internet explorer 8 and real player. The same problem occurred with my Lenova G560 core i5 laptop. Is downloading a thing of the past? I'm sorry, but I feel 'dirty' buying music in a store or on line---I feel like I'm paying for sex because I have no friends with benefits!!!
We are not stealing music/content; its just that digital has rendered the traditional music business model obsolete. I hate RAP else the blue eye'd soul PAP that passes itself off as Rock & Roll. I am entitled to my opinion. Accordingly, I only download music videos from the 80s-60s---content that is more than 25 years old and that was 'given away' to TV stations/etc as promotional items. If it were once given away as free---it is wrong to now try to charge for it.
OK, people, what is my work around?

Don't use RealPlayer, there are loads of other video/audio capture programs - the better ones are commercial, and you generally get what you pay for. RealPlayer has always been a bit problematic with the way it handles downloads & I guess they've finally gone a bit too far.

what a good excuse , impressive.
If you want to go for it anyhow, then below will help.

1. open a video on youtube which you want to download
2. IN the URL bar, append "kick" before youtube and hit enter, it will download the video for you in the desired format.

example, if the youtube video URL is , www.youtube.com/watch?*XNBJHDHD you will edit the URL like this
www.kickyoutube.com/watch?*XNBJHDHD and hit enter.

kickyoutube is simply another type of download site. As with any site you may be risking data security.

Too much pointless ranting to wade through. We did not cause this issue. Focussed posts get the best results.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

@Jefro, Indeed. I guess he have to pay for what he is gonna do by risking the data.

They installs a JAVA applet on the system and who knows what can be done from their applet. One cannot complain because the site itself is illegal .

the simple Principal is "Nothing is free". if they are giving something for free , there must be some catches.
