This Notification problem appeared and i happened to have followed some commands to try and remove it. Among the suggestions was that deletion of the wgalogon.dll file will solve the issue. Yes now it does not appear but once i input the username and password, it logs off and brings the login screen once again.
Am running on windows XP sp3 but would like to repair using sp2. will my programmes still run as normal or will i need to reinstall them?
If you perform a repair installation all your files & programs will remain intact. Just you`ll have to install SP3 once again. Google is your friend

Is it telling you your XP is not genuine, or is it some other problem? You can't repair XP-SP3 with an XP-SP2 CD. You will need to start from scratch: re-install Windows XP-SP2, then install SP3 again from Microsoft Updates.

Just do the reapir installation using the XP-SP2 disc, then reinstall SP3 & all the Windows Updates afterwards. But before doing anything, you must uninstall IE7 or IE8, see the following:
