Specs: Windows 7
turned off power as went on holiday, now computer will not start up. Windows XP won't start. Put in windows XP disc and reformatted, now lost all mmy files and programmes. Any help wou;ld be appreciated but in simple terms please as am not really savvy lol

If you reformatted, then you've done just that. So, your programs will need to be reinstalled.

Just out of curiosity, why the drastic step of formatting/reinstalling? If the computer wouldn't power up, how did you get Windows reinstalled? :) Just curious...

For future reference, it's always a good idea to have data backups...either to external HDD, flash drive, CD/DVD, etc.

Your file might be recovered by some drastic or/and expensive tasks. For most common people the file are gone.

You may be able to recover some of the programs. See the owners manual for how they expect you to recover the programs. It may be that you had two ways to fix. One being the windows 7 disk while the other may be making disks with a program or using a F key to recover.

I couldn't start windows then was told to boot with disc, so I used my windows xp disc Aand it re=installed xp. Maybe will have to see a technician boo hoo
