Websites not loading in Internet Explorer

July 10, 2009 at 07:01:12
Specs: Windows XP

My laptop from work will not load many websites. When it does decide to load, I cannot click on links to navigate around the site.

I work in a school and a virus spread quickly onto the computers via flash drives. It renamed all of the drives W32...etc.
Tech support came in and cleaned the computers and installed anti-virus software. Got rid of the virus, but kept IE from working. He came back in and removed software when I told him this, but the same problem is still occuring.

Any help on how I can fix this would be much appreciated.

Check for any spyware or adware that might be istalled which will not be detected with most of the anti virus.

you can install spybot search and destroy which is a free software and it is really good.
Try to run with this and see if it helps you.

Not sure if this will help but I had a similar experience.
After a spyware attack and subsequant cleanup, I could not access basic sites like Google and Yahoo. ( very frustrating).

It turned out that either the virus, or antivirus repair, had altered a file called "hosts" typically found here:

I found an older backup version which had been renamed " host1" with a date which closely matched the start of my problems.
I saved a copy of the file then opened the original using notepad.
The file contained a long list of web site that were now considered as harmful and which were now outlawed by my system.
I scrolled down to find the sites I was having trouble with ( and , in my case) and deleted these listings from the file, re-saved the file and re-launched IE .
This worked for me, hope it can help others.
