Volume buttons not working properly

July 29, 2011 at 23:44:17
Specs: Windows XP
On my keyboard of my laptop (lenovo tablet, x200 I think,) I have three buttons at the top that control the volume. mute, volume down and up. Whenever I press volume up or down I get the usual icon appearing on the screen but the volume moves by two units. Also the mute button has no effect at all. Can anyone help me?

I managed to fix it!

I did a reboot and found that windows weren't showing up on my taskbar. A quick google later gave me this solution which solved my volume button problem as well.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, Process Tab, end all explorer.exe and iexplore.exe processes .

Type regedit in File - Rum

Delete these three keys.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ StuckRects2

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Streams

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ StreamsMRU

(spaces added because of that stupid 52 char limit...)

Back in Task Manager choose Shutdown menu - Reboot.

I found that the reboot wasn't necessary, just put explorer.exe into run and add back your toolbars.
