Virus & trouble with windows repair

Specs: Windows XP home service pack 2
So today my desktop was changed to all blue with a black box in the middle and red letters saying something like "your computer is infected, etc".

So looking around online I found that other people have this virus, and following the advice of others I downloaded malware destroy (or something like that), and tried to use it to search for the virus. However, after running the scan for about a minute I would get BSOD and have to restart.

So, I tried to start in safe mode. This didn't work as my computer would restart every time before finishing loading everything.

So I decided to run windows repair so that I could boot in safe mode. With 34 mins to go of windows repair, at the "Installing Devices" stage, I get an error message that says "the software you are installing for this hardware: MSI NX 6600GT (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT) has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with windows you want to continue installation?". Which doesn't sound like a big deal, however at the same time my mouse and keyboard both stop working, every time, making it impossibly to choose yes or no.

So, I'm wondering what I can do? I'm kind of stuck because every time I turn on my computer it runs the windows repair installation, but it can't get through it.

I am installing from a windows xp home edition service pack 2 cd. Thanks for any help I'm stumped.

edgc, know the name of your nasty? Most still allow safe mode and you can clean from there. If it stops you from that, will it let you search Google for a cleaner? Perhaps you need to use another machine for the search? Maybe put the cleaner on a disk or thumb drive and boot from there?

Let me clarify - my problem at this point is that I'm stuck in an endless loop of XP trying to do the repair installation but being unable to. Is there any way to get out of this without reformatting?

Oh and Ed, not sure of the name but yes I was still able to search google for it, and download it, but as soon as it would get about a minute into the virus scan I would get blue screened and have to restart. Actually my computer could still perform most functions, but security related things would blue screen me. But, to repeat, at this point I mainly need to get out of the windows XP installation loop. Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the double post, couldn't find an edit button (there might be one but I'm posting from a blackberry).
