view photos saved in a disk in .dat format

Specs: Windows XP
i transferred photos from a friends laptop to a disk and i am unable to view them on my laptop as they are in .dat file. When i open the disk alot of info i dont understand appears, segments vcd please help

if you had copied just pictures they would be in tiff, jpeg or other format. Since this appears to be a .dat file I have to think the pictures were in a program. You would need to determine what program so you can open this dat file.

... DAT is the file that you see on the VCD. The DAT doesn't differs much from a MPG but you should always convert the DAT to MPG if you want to edit or so

Dat files were originally data files. Sadly the same file type was then used as a video file. Silly I know.

If the computer has been subject to a knock or disturbance sometimes it moves the RAM contacts onto edge connector oxide.

It is just possible that if you clean the edge connectors on the dud stick with a pencil eraser then pop it in and out a few times it will work again.
