Have you tried installing the ram one stick at a time? thats what i would do, install one, turn the pc on, see what happens, etc. are you sure the memory is compatible with your motherboard?
Since you little or no control over the memory settings in the eMachines BIOS, you MUST use RAM that fits the recommended requirements: "- 2.6 V (only) DDR SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
- Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction: Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported.
- 4 GB maximum total system memory
- Minimum total system memory: 128 MB
- Non-ECC DIMMs
- Serial Presence Detect
- DDR 400 MHz and DDR 333 MHz SDRAM DIMMs"
have tried every permutation,no effect,am checking that they are compatible!
Will advise,thank you,

Hello,
I have followed your link (http://www.intel.com/support/mother...) and it appears I have been sent the wrong modules, double sided instead of single,
Thank you for your prompt reply, with the reason;it seems that the company I purchased from have the wrong info on their web site.
Your time has been appreciated,
regards,
ericj
