First of all, if 8200K (8 Meg) is truly the amount of RAM you have, you wouldn't even be able to boot XP. You're going to need at least 64MB for it to install, 128MB for it to do anything (extremely slowly), and 512MB for it to do much of anything decently:

Your machine apparently doesn't support more than 128MB:

therefore, unless you max-out the memory and seriously "slim-down" XP, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the results.

You'd also find XP drivers for that machine to be non-existent; HP's (Compaq's) site doesn't even have them:

"upgraded ram to 8200kb"

That's only 8MB.

Win98 minimum required RAM = 16MB (24MB recommended).

WinXP minimum required RAM = 64MB (128MB recommended). But anyone familiar with XP will tell you the minimum should be 512MB.

.... and in the real world even W98 was poor with less than 64M.

8M sounds about right for Win 31 (poor on 4M).

Are you sure about this figure?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
