Unknown user: bad login ID or password

October 4, 2010 at 08:20:41
Specs: Windows XP
I get this error alot trying to install applications using the "Run As" option. I know the password is correct, so why would this error pop up?

Is there a registry corruption somewhere? Because I do know that this option worked on all of our machines at one point, but now only on about 10% of them.

did you check to see if the referenced account exists on the workstation?
did you reset the password and try again?

Yes, the referenced account exists on each of the machines, its the account I use to make Administrator changes.

As far as changing the password, that kind of defy's the point. The whole idea is to use the current credentials to execute a program. But if changing the password is needed, then so be it.

"changing the password" referred to resetting it to what you has already set as a standard. Appears to me the password for the local admin is not what you set. By reseting the password to what you know and then having your run as workd, tells you someone is changing the password.
