Specs: Windows XP
here are way more problems then missing recycling bins so I'll list them all as detailed as possible, please someone with experience help.

So first, I usually don't turn my xp off I just turn the monitor off, when I woke up this morning I did just that and my system shut down. I booted it up manually and it loaded but everytime I clicked an icon it highlighted another or all of them at once. Yet this glitch seemed to go away after chrome opened.

Next I tried installing AVG FREE SCANNER. Got an error code of 0x?? 3D (If you need exact I'll research it ) I googled the error and they said to install it without the download manager so I did and it said File is corrupt.

I searched how to get rid of this and it listed to
run>regedit>hkey_localmachine>software>windows> change permissions to full control. I did. and It let me download but then I got another error so I gave up and tried to disk defragement.

THEN I minimized disk defrag. and all of a sudden my recycling bin is missing and in place is MY COMPUTER? THEN A RANDOM my network places icon has been added.

Also, when I run my computer it shows E: and my dvd inserter keeps closing automatically? DO I HAVE A VIRUS IF SO PLEASE HELP ME. thank you

HelpWanted , if you're worried ONLY about a virus - scan. I suspect you've been infected by a worm/trojan instead.
Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I’m not paid for recommendation) can do the job and you can get it free @:
among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running and disable 'restore' (restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux.
The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to try.
