unable to uninstall HP product

Specs: Windows XP
Firstly, apologies if I fail to give you all the necessary information I'm not really sure what is relevant to my problem and what is not.
I have an HP F2180 all in one printer which was installed on my laptop it has worked fine intermittently but fairly frequently freezes up. About a week ago, hacked off with the wretched printer I decided to uninstall and reinstall which is where my real problems have started. I went in to add/remove programmes and clicked to uninstall the hewlett packard software, ever since I have been plagued with HP pop ups from HP product assistant. I've deleted everything I can find pertaining to HP but found there were a couple of files that wouldn't delete. I've run CCleaner - twice but the pop ups keep on coming. I've tried going into various files as suggested in threads I've found on other forums but invariably there have been odd files that wouldn't delete.
Please can someone give me some idea of how to get rid of this HP stuff once & for all.

Try deleting them in Safe Mode if they won't delete in Windows.

You can also go to the run command and type msconfig then the "startup" tab and uncheck anything regarding HP.

Thankyou very much for your suggestions but it's still there. I've resorted to just dragging the box to the bottom of the screen and ignoring it.

I restarted the laptop in safe mode and went into the control panel again, but there were no HP products to remove.
I've typed msconfig into the 'run' menu and unchecked the only HP item on the startup tab, but the pop up's keep on coming.

The 1st one I get is a 'windows installer' message immediately followed by an 'HP Product Assistant' message with a progress bar.
Then I get a bigger HP Product Assistant message saying 'Te feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a older containing to installation package 'hpproduct.msi' in the box below
Use Source: C:\DOCUME~1\EMMATH~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\7zS6AE4\setup\hpproductassistant\'
Options OK, Cancel and Browse. Clicking OK & Cancel has been useless.

It's gone!!!!!
I *think* it was typing in msconfig and unchecking the hp stuffin the startup tab that finally got rid of it.
I realised last night that I probably hadn't restarted my laptop after doing so due to the pop up's stopping the laptop from shutting down properly. However, after trying again last night I have started up this morning and there are no pop up's.
Thankyou very much for your time, and advice.
Emma
