When you boot up the machine in safe mode can you use the computer after the error comes up?

Just to say that "reboot" means just restarting you computer. I think you mean either re-install or reformat.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

when i run it in safe mode, i can click cntrl, alt, del. my mouse is visible in both safe and regular mode and works on tabs in the cntrl, alt, del....
i typed in explorer.exe but i will get the message there too.

yes i meant reformat, or reinstall from the recovery and applications/ drivers media instructions disc. this is an iolder toshiba, like 2003 or so...

Try running System Restore. If it doesn't work the normal way then try typing the following line in the Run box (must be exactly right):
%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
[Hit Enter key afterwards].

If not there is repair install:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/X...

Neither of these two should ovewrwrite your own data.

the disc i have says toshiba recovery and applications/drivers dvds satelite a100/a105 series.
its a 2003 version of window with outlook express. i had to upgrade windows (to xp) , and outlook (to windows live ) after i did a recovery before.
the disc wipes everything out even if you choose recovery of factory default software recover out-of-box state , or erase the hard disk delete all the data and partitions from your hard drive.
i guess i'm gonna recovery of factory default again.
this computer has done this about 3 or 4 times now.
could it be the hard drive, or???
should i just buy something else like a mac????

It would be quicker and better to provide a link than copy/pasting off websites onto here. By the way, iexplore.exe is for the Internet, explorer.exe is the Windows file system.

Registry cleaners can do more harm than good.
